‘Horse Power’ and The Phoenix Foundation

To celebrate the vinyl release of their debut album, The Phoenix Foundation embarked on a small number of shows throughout Aotearoa culminating in the sold out finale at The Wellington Opera House.

This is a band that has gained fans not only throughout New Zealand but throughout the World. They have played live on Jools Holland, been lauded by international critics and have collaborated with some of the world’s most iconic artists.

The album ‘Horse Power’ which was released twenty years ago remains as relevant and as important as it ever was, it is an album built on intricate soundscapes and beautiful emotion.

As a photographer, to go behind the scenes to document this tour was an opportunity to observe the incredible talent that seven individuals can bring together as a collective.

It was a moment to hear an album that is so important to me personally, play out on a journey through the country it was born.

“Working with Nick was a delight. He manages to both be right in amongst the action, but almost like a seasoned nature photographer expertly getting the shot whilst not disturbing the delicate balance that is a band on tour. The excellent photos speak for themselves” Samuel Flynn Scott/The Phoenix Foundation
